Taxonomy of Creatures

Taxonomy of the many Creatures in Spyro's world is different than that of (your) earth for several reasons, the main reason being that many of the beasts simply do not fall neatly into any of the earthly taxonomic ranks. In accordance with the varying designs of the beings encountered on Spyro's world, the following categories are commonly used to describe and study them by created type:

Number of limbs (e.g. "4 limbs (2 legs 2 wings)" would be a correct way to describe in this manner a bat-like or bird-like flying creature)

Skin covering (e.g. "body covered in thick fur")

Egg description if applicable (e.g. "lays hard shelled eggs; three on average")

Description of young (e.g. "young are altricial, cared for by parents for twelve years or longer")

A creature with six limbs is commonly called a Six-limb. Six-limbs include creatures such as DragonsGriffinsOpiniciUnicornsSalamandersPegasiGargoylesSphingesCentaurs, and Feathercats. Many six-limbs are quadrupeds, the majority of them having two wings used for flight or gliding. Others, such as Sphinges, and Centaurs, have all their limbs as legs and are designed without wings.

A creature without a true physical form is referred to as a Spirit, and is described as having zero limbs.
