Sparx is known for being a Dragonfly hero. Spyro's adopted sibling and best friend, Sparx is slightly older than his larger, purpler brother is. He helped protect his younger brother Spyro and accompanies him on almost all his journeys.

YOUTH

Sparx is the son of the Dragonflies Flash and Nina. After finding Spyro's egg in the Silver River, Nina and Flash decided to protect it, moving it near Sparx's. Before Sparx hatched, his egg was accidentally taken by a thief, who quickly grabbed his and Spyro's eggs during the night. After recovering the eggs from the thief the following morning, Flash and Nina watched as Sparx hatched in a pond now named after him. Larval Sparx crawled around on Spyro's egg, describing what the outside world was like, and Spyro later hatched on that same day.

Sparx and Spyro were raised as brothers. After a few years, the family tried to enroll Spyro and Sparx in a local Dragonfly school, but this did not work out well for Spyro, so Nina and Flash pulled them both out of school, deciding to homeschool the boys themselves. Because of the various dangers that lie there, Sparx and his brother were never allowed to venture too far out into the Swamp, especially because a wandering young Sparx was once caught by a bird—and almost eaten—before Spyro rescued him.

ADOLESCENT TRAVELS

As an imago, Sparx enjoyed playing hide-and-go-seek with Spyro. Often teasing little Spyro for not being capable of flight, Sparx would zoom around the Swamp, laughing while they played and foraged. After flying into a cave in the forbidden part of the Swamp, Sparx was caught first by a Frogweed plant, and then by Apes. Spyro performed his first elemental ability as he defended his dragonfly brother from the Apes. Returning home, they were amazed by what had happened, Sparx telling their parents all about how Spyro had "breathed fire [...] from [his] mouth". After being told by their parents that Spyro was adopted and not a Dragonfly, Spyro left home to find answers. Sparx tried to hide his fear for Spyro's well-being, but the anxiety of being apart from his brother was too much, so after a talk with his father Flash, he headed off after Spyro, joining him and telling him that they belonged together.
