Golden Mushroom Swamp

The Golden Mushroom Swamp is a fen area (with islands) of the Artisans' district, named for the native flora. Its Sparx Pond is notable for being the hatchplace of Spyro and Sparx.

Geography and Climate

The Silver River runs through the forest: at the low end, the Silver Sea, with the Ancient Grove upstream. There is a Dragon Temple situated near the swamp delta, and which overlooks the Silver Sea. The waters here have a purple tint to them, but are potable, unlike the poisonous waters upstream at the Ancient Grove. Being a fen, the soil there is mostly a neutral pH, although it does have a high clay content. There is a fair amount of rain, but the summers are dry. The sky gets an orange tint to it from the Golden Mushroom spores, but the air quality is generally considered excellent.

Politics

The region has gone through numerous political stances. Originally occupied mainly by Dragons and Dragonflies, the Swamp eventually came under the leadership of a group of Artisan Dragons.

Centuries after becoming part of the Artisans' district, Malefor and his army attacked the Dragons, leaving most of the residents to go into hiding. After Malefor's death, his army continued to lay waste to the country. The Swamp Temple was a refuge for Dragon eggs and young, but after the Dark Armies had laid siege to the Temple, all but two of the eggs had been destroyed. Cynder was sent out a few years later, taking out all the Guardians she could, but the Fire Guardian Ignitus went into hiding, after witnessing the disappearance of Pyra, his young battle squire.

It wasn't till Spyro and Sparx encountered Ignitus—a decade later—that there would be any change in the political state of the area. After defeating Malefor, the capital Warfang was back under Dragon rule.
