Ignis ~ Fire

Flames and the warmth of the sun

~Ancient Elemental Poem on the Elements in Nature

Overview

Fire, also known as Ignis, or Flame, is one of the nine elements which make up Spyro’s world. It is the most common element for a Dragon. Fire is also linked to other creatures, such as Phoenices. An important bioindicator species is the Fireflies. The color used to represent Fire is a vivid vermillion, or else red, or orange. Zeal and faith are the qualities associated with this element. The Purple Dragon Prophecy states that the Purple Dragon will have a beginning near Fire. Additionally, Fire was used in the Great Cleansing to prevent the wicked from destroying the earth. Fire is at its apogee during the Season of Flame. The Dark form of Fire is often called Shadow Fire, for it burns yet gives no light; a rarer term is Cold Fire, because it gives no warmth. Fire's complementing opposite is Ice.

Interplay With the Other Elements

Water is the natural enemy of Fire, and Fire Skylanders must be extra cautious when dealing with the Water Element, or they may find their flames well and extinguished.

~Book of Elements: Fire and Water, page 40

The element of Fire is strong against Wind and Shadow, as well as all Life creations. However, Fire is weak against all forms of Ice and Earth, as well as non-living sources of Alchemy, and certain Tech creations. It is on roughly equal terms against both Electricity and Fear.

Terminology

  • Pyrokinesis—external manipulation of Fire.

  • Pyrogenesis—the creation of Fire from within; the ability to make Fire.

  • Pyrogenetic—referring to the ability to create Fire.

  • Ignivomous—Fire-spewing; the quality of being able to throw out Fire.
