Chroniclers
The one who left behind the green plants and ancient trees
who bid farewell to the bright ocean waters and sweet breezes
How he sought to relieve the shadows of his doubt
how he believed in his pain that this was his end
The one who explored the lights of the vast sky
who learned the risings and settings of the stars
How the fiery brightness of the scorching sun suffers eclipse
how the heavenly bodies depart at certain times
The one who scribed the newborn world’s unwritten acts
who penned the thoughts and wills of beasts and beings
How they move and breathe the earth’s pure air
How they spread both life and poison through their tongues
The one who sees both blessings and curses
who knows the names of all that crawl upon the grasses
How the chosen can observe time yet not progress in their journey
How the hermit’s shell is tied to the caves of secrecy
The one who became a mere frame of his past self
who had hoped to enter into the Kingdom of the Ancients
How he must endure more of this suffering
how long one can wait for his life’s completion
~An ancient poem about the life of a Chronicler
Overview
Chroniclers are Dragons tasked with observing and writing all of history and time. For each new Age, a mortal Dragon is chosen by the Ancient Spirit, and assigned the position after his death. Chroniclers live and work in the Celestial Temple of the Celestial Caves. Part of the Chronicler's regalia is a unique Spirit Gem called the Heart of the Chronicler, which ties the soul of the Chronicler to the White Isle, preventing entering the afterlife or leaving the Celestial Temple. Once a new Age has begun and his service is over, the old Chronicler passes the Heart on to the next anointed Dragon, who then takes on his duty as the next Chronicler.
Chroniclers Throughout the Ages
The very first Chronicler was the Ancient Spirit. He is usually referred to as the first, or Alpha Chronicler. Throughout history there have been several mortal Dragons also tasked with being Chroniclers of the Ages, one for each of the mortal Purple Dragons. Being chosen by the Ancient Ancestors to serve as a Chronicler is a great honor for a Dragon, and the task requires much patience and wisdom.
