Dragon Weddings

Weddings are a sacred rite for Dragons. Viewed as a new step in life, a chance to create someone new, and a promise to desire humility and personal growth, Dragons see taking a mate as an honor and a commitment not to be taken lightly.

Customary Age

It was an old custom for young Dragons to take a mate at age fifteen, though this is hardly seen, as of now. Most Dragons become mated during years 18 through 400 of their lives.

Gems

It is common for a Dragon to offer a Spirit Gem to his prospective mate before engaging as a promised pair. Sometimes the crystal is built into jewelry, such as a ring or necklace.

Wedding Bands

Dragons have silver wedding bands on their right hands, while Dragonesses have gold wedding bands on their left hands. These bands are placed on the third digit and are made of a special metal, related to Soul Metal. The wedding bands sometimes they look invisible, but they're always there, and they show when needed.

Ceremony

There is belief that those of ancient times, one's ancestors, and most importantly the Ancient Ancestors are present in spirit form to witness the wedding. Traditionally, there need not be physical witnesses for the wedding vows to be considered valid, though a public celebration is usually preferred.

After the vows are taken, the mated Dragons will fly up into the air in a spiral shape, grasp each other's hands, then free-fall, letting go and resuming flight before plummeting to the earth.

Dragons mate for life, pair bonds are only broken by death or abandonment (though the latter is considered dishonorable).
