Fear

Awe of the One that made everything.

~Ancient Elemental Poem on the Elements in Nature

Overview

Fear, also known as Timor, or less commonly, Awe*(see note below), is one of the nine elements which make up Spyro’s world. It is found in the awe of the One Whom made everything, and used by Dragons and other creatures. Dreadwings are an important bioindicator species. The color used to represent Fear is pink, or else red, or orange. Self-control and loyalty are the qualities associated with this element.

As with Alchemy and Shadow, Fear is an element which is frequently misunderstood, and because it is extremely rare to wield naturally—but its Dark form an element commonly obtained through corruption—its users are often pre-judged. The apogee of Fear is during the Season of Fear. The Dark form of Fear has no common name, but it is very different from its natural form: the opposite of Fear is like the opposite of loyalty, for one is even disloyal to oneself, losing control of one's composure; Dark Fear causes its user's sanity to drip away like blood from a fresh wound. Fear's complementing opposite is Alchemy.

*Light Fear is sometimes called Awe or Good Fear, in contrast to Dark Fear.

Interplay With the Other Elements

The element of Fear is strong against Wind and Electricity, as well as all Life creations, and certain Tech creations. Additionally, while Dark Fear is strong against Light Shadow, Light Fear is weak against Dark Shadow, with all forms of Fear being weak against non-living forms of Alchemy. It is on roughly equal terms against Fire, Ice, and Earth.

Terminology

  • Phobokinesis—external manipulation of Fear.

  • Phobogenesis—the creation of Fear from within; the ability to make Fear.

  • Phobogenetic—referring to the ability to create Fear.

  • Timorevomous—Fear-spewing; the quality of being able to throw out Fear.
